When would anyone have had a reason to be on One Loudoun's new block after dark this year? Until a week and a half ago, there wasn't much of one. Each business that opened on the expanded stretch of Exchange Street between April and early September was a furniture showroom, an activewear store, an ice cream shop or a bakery that opens at 7 a.m. The block's evening anchor came last. Its winter feature hasn't arrived yet.
The opening order shapes how the block works this fall, and it explains why the next few months will change it more than the last six did.
Six Months of Daytime
The fences around One Loudoun's north-side expansion came down when Arhaus opened in early April. That let the public onto a block that had been a construction site since the center started announcing tenants in 2024. Here is the order it filled in:
- Arhaus, April 4. The first business in the new section took a unit of nearly 20,000 square feet at the corner of Exchange Street and Endicott Drive. The showroom covers two floors and has a large covered outdoor area for patio furniture.
- Alo, May 1. The activewear brand opened its first Loudoun County store on the new Exchange Street block.
- Van Leeuwen Ice Cream, June 2. Long lines formed on opening morning. It was only the third Van Leeuwen in Virginia, after two in Arlington, and it opened while that section of One Loudoun was still partly under construction.
- Tatte Bakery & Cafe, June 10. The grand opening started at 7 a.m. Crowds came for coffee drinks, fresh pastries, sandwiches, tartines and salads, and the outdoor patio filled on day one.
Taken together, those four openings gave the block a clear daily rhythm. Tatte covered breakfast, Arhaus and Alo covered the shopping hours, and Van Leeuwen covered the afternoon. None of the four was a sit-down dinner restaurant. For the whole summer, the new section's busiest hours were in daylight, and Tatte's patio was the closest thing it had to a gathering spot.
What bartaco Adds After Dark
bartaco is the business that changes that. The Burn first reported the restaurant's plans for One Loudoun in September 2024. Two years later, after a freestanding building went up and staff were hired and trained, Loudoun County's first bartaco began a soft opening the week of September 24, 2026. That first week it served dinner only, and staff expected to add lunch as early as the next week.
That expansion appears to have happened. bartaco's own location page lists the One Loudoun kitchen at 44695 Uptown Row Drive as open from 11 a.m. until late, daily. One Loudoun's directory page for the restaurant still reads "Opening Soon," with hours marked "Coming Soon." For current hours, bartaco's site is the more up-to-date of the two.
The timing also matters. The Burn's April walk-through found the bartaco building finished on the outside but still filled with gravel inside, waiting for utilities and a poured floor. Tatte and Van Leeuwen were well along at that point and opened within weeks. The restaurant meant to bring evenings to the block needed the most construction, so it opened last. With bartaco open, the new section now has an anchor at each end of the day. Tatte covers the morning from 7 a.m., and bartaco's kitchen runs late.
A Plaza Planned for Winter
bartaco also faces the one feature on this block that hasn't opened yet. A large, grassy, park-like plaza sits in front of the restaurant, and One Loudoun plans to turn it into an ice rink each winter. By February 2026, the outline of the future rink was already visible beside the bartaco building, which was nearly finished on the outside. The Burn reported then that the rink would be a regular winter feature on the small park in front of the restaurant.
As of October 4, One Loudoun's events page doesn't list the rink, and The Burn's reporting hasn't named an operator, an opening date, hours or skate pricing. Anyone hoping to skate before the holidays should keep an eye on that page. What is settled is the layout. The rink will sit next to a restaurant that's open late, a few steps from an ice cream shop and a bakery, on a block that until September had nothing open past dinnertime.
What's Still Behind the Signs
Several tenants announced for the expansion are still to come, and three of them are home-goods stores. As of October 4, here is where they stand:
| Tenant | Status as of Oct. 4, 2026 | What's been reported |
|---|---|---|
| Madewell | Marked "Coming Soon" in the One Loudoun directory | No opening date published |
| Pottery Barn | Marked "Coming Soon" | No opening date published |
| Williams Sonoma | Marked "Coming Soon" | No opening date published |
| Anthropologie | Marked "Coming Soon"; reported under construction nearby | Going into a long-vacant space next to the expansion |
| Tempo by Hilton | Under construction as of late May | 169 rooms, expected to open in 2027 |
When they open, Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma will put two more home-goods showrooms on the same block as Arhaus. Madewell and Anthropologie will add apparel and home goods alongside Alo. All four are retail, which makes them mostly daytime businesses, so the block's evening activity in the near term still rests on bartaco and the plaza. The Tempo by Hilton is further out. Its expected 2027 opening means overnight guests are not part of the picture this winter.
A Fall Calendar Across the Whole Center
Most of One Loudoun's fall programming is spread across the center, and a few dates line up well with a stop at the new block:
- EatLoco Farmers Market, Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., year-round. The market's hours overlap Tatte's mornings, which makes a Saturday coffee-and-market loop easy.
- Moonlight Market, The Maker's Valley Friday Market, Fridays from 5 to 9 p.m. at 20387 Exchange Street. The series started August 14 and ends Friday, October 30. That leaves four Fridays, and they are the first ones with bartaco open nearby for dinner.
- Sunrise Sweat with lululemon, Sunday, October 11, 9 to 10:30 a.m. The session is three 30-minute outdoor yoga classes at One Loudoun Park.
- 8th Annual Halloween Bark Bash, Saturday, October 24, noon to 3 p.m., at the Easthampton Plaza address. The day brings pet costumes, trick-or-treating, music, local pet businesses and rescue groups with adoptable dogs.
- Asia in a Bite, a free outdoor food festival with 40 food vendors, more than 10 merchandise vendors and a live DJ. One Loudoun's event listing gives October 31 to November 1, but the event's web address refers to October 17 and 18. Check with the organizer before planning around either weekend.
On Sundays, the EatLoco Farmers Market at Brambleton runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 22850 Brambleton Plaza through late November. Together, the two markets cover both weekend mornings in Ashburn.
The block's daytime businesses are settled: Arhaus, Alo, Van Leeuwen and Tatte have all been open since June or earlier. The rest is still changing week to week, including bartaco's first full month, four retail storefronts behind "Coming Soon" signs, and a rink that still needs a date.
As One Loudoun's expansion fills in, the businesses within walking distance of a home will be part of how it's described and valued in a sale. If you own near the center and want to know how its build-out could factor into a sale, or how it affects which nearby homes are worth a look, Ben Kessie and Konah Real Estate Group can walk you through the local details.
